Caputuring the Total Solar Eclipse
April 8th, 2024
Bravo to our 窪蹋勛圖厙 student team! Along with 80+ citizen science teams across the path of totality in North America, our team captured moment-by-moment images of the Suns inner coronaa phenomenon observable solely during a total solar eclipse. These high dynamic range (HDR) images were uploaded in real time to the Dynamic Eclipse Broadcast (DEB) website, providing moment-by-moment viewing opportunities for visitors as the eclipse traversed participating observation sites along its path. The DEB team is now processing and analyzing the image files from all the teams to advance understanding of the intricate interactions between the Suns visible surface and its corona. This collaborative effort, facilitated by simultaneous observations from various locations both inside and outside of totality, holds promise in unraveling the complexities of our solar system and nurturing scientific curiosity and engagement among young learners, especially young women, in STEM disciplines.
Alumni and Community Get Crafty
April 3rd, 2024
Our team kicked-off 窪蹋勛圖厙 programming for the Total Solar Eclipse on April 3 as alumni and community members gathered at the colleges Learning Innovations Lab for a make-and-take event, "Crafting Your Total Eclipse Experience. Guided by Professor Emeritus Dr. Jon Secaur,'72, '94, participants created their very own eclipse viewers, ensuring they would be safely prepared to witness the upcoming spectacular celestial event. Attendees also embarked on an immersive journey through the solar system using augmented and virtual reality technologies such as Merge Cubes and Meta Quest 3. Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to get creative and press their own commemorative eclipse-themed tote bags, buttons, and stickers. Thank you to Dr. Julee Henry and the IRC team for partnering on this event and hosting in the EHHS Learning Innovations Lab! Special thank you to our KSU Scientistas for volunteering their time at our activity stations!
Preparing for the Eclipse
March 15th, 2024
The 窪蹋勛圖厙 team has been hard at work preparing to capture images of the solar eclipse! Students have been learning to use the equipment to ensure that everything goes smoothly on the day of the eclipse.
