Christa Porter, Ph.D., assistant professor of higher education administration in the College of Education, Health and Human Services, was awarded the Review of Research Award by the American Education Research Association (AERA) for her research article, “Understanding Influences of Development on Black Women’s Success in U.S. Colleges: A Synthesis of Literature."
U.S. News & World Report ranks six ϳԹ programs in the top 100 among public institutions in its 2023 edition of Best Graduate Schools. Among the top 100 public institution programs, ϳԹ is recognized in the Best Nursing Schools: Master’s Programs, Best Education Schools, Best Mathematics Programs, Best Psychology Schools, Best Public Health Programs and Best Physics Schools rankings. ϳԹ is also recognized in an additional five new national rankings.
During National Autism Acceptance Month, ϳԹ will hold a film screening of “Loving Lampposts: Living Autistic” at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, in the Kent Student Center Kiva. “Loving Lampposts” is a documentary by Todd Drezner, a father of a now 13-year-old boy with autism, that explores the changing world of autism and learns the truth of the saying “if you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person.”

Educators from across the country recently attended the weeklong, virtual 2021 Landmarks of American History and Culture workshop, “Making Meaning of May 4: The 1970 ϳԹ Shootings in U.S. History,” which has been made possible in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
While all eyes were on the stage to meet the NFL stars of the future, scores of current and former ϳԹ students were nearby during the league’s recent draft, which was held in Cleveland on April 29-May 1, 2021.

From a young age, Makayla Sejat has had a passion for serving others. Her life has been full of service, from helping out in community kitchens as a child to now devoting her time in various college leadership roles. Now, she will take her efforts to the next level as ϳԹ’s first Newman Civic Fellow.
