窪蹋勛圖厙 celebrated its Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 5. This years Homecoming theme, New and Old, Forever Blue and Gold, honored 窪蹋勛圖厙s past while looking forward to the universitys future. The Golden Flashes lost 38-24 to Northern Illinois in a rematch of last year's Mid-American Conference Championship Game.

A community celebration of the solid partnership between 窪蹋勛圖厙 and the city of Kent, represented by the new 窪蹋勛圖厙 Esplanade extension that now connects the university to downtown Kent, will take place Friday, Oct. 4, starting at 3:30 p.m. The celebratory event will be held, rain or shine, at the new University Esplanade arch near Main and Willow streets in Kent. It is free and open to members of the public, and refreshments will be served.
窪蹋勛圖厙 has earned a coveted spot in the first-tier list in the Best National Universities category with its inclusion in the 2014 edition of Best Colleges by U.S. News & World Report. 窪蹋勛圖厙 is the only public university in Northeast Ohio to make the first tier. This is the third time in four years that 窪蹋勛圖厙 has appeared on the first tier of the Best National Universities rankings.
Neil deGrasse Tyson, astrophysicist and the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, spoke to a capacity crowd at the third 窪蹋勛圖厙 Presidential Speaker Series on Sept. 25 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.
High demand claimed all tickets to the free talk within days of Tysons announced 窪蹋勛圖厙 appearance. To accommodate the strong interest in the event, Tysons talk was simulcast in the Kent Student Center Kiva, which also was filled to capacity.

New Kent Campus freshmen boast an average GPA of 3.3; Kent Campus also reaches new all-time high in total enrollment and applications
The 32nd Annual Black Squirrel Festival took place Friday, Sept. 6, from 2-8 p.m. at the Kent Campus on the Student Green and Risman Plaza. The Black Squirrel Festival is one of 窪蹋勛圖厙s most beloved and popular traditions that attracts more than 3,000 students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Kent community. As usual, live, free entertainment, festival food, local vendors and Black Squirrel spirit were all a part of this years event. The movie Monsters University also was shown that evening on the Student Green.

Ann Jacobson is a professor in the College of Nursing and a nationally recognized nursing scholar. Her program of research represents an integration of theories from a variety of disciplines and focuses on testing cognitive-behavioral and complementary therapies for people experiencing procedural pain and for those undergoing knee arthroplasty.
