Who can be a member of the Marching Golden Flashes?
Membership is open to ALL ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø students. You do not have to be a music major to participate. Members of the Marching Golden Flashes represent virtually all academic disciplines on campus with over 80% of the band consisting of students majoring in fields other than music!

Are there scholarships available for members of the Marching Golden Flashes?
Yes! All members of the Marching Golden Flashes receive a $1000 scholarship for every year of participation. It is divided into two $500 installments between the fall and spring semesters. 

When does the Marching Band rehearse?

We rehearse Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:20-5:15 p.m. 

Will I have time for Marching Band?
Absolutely! In fact, our members see marching band as a break from lecture halls and labs where they get to spend time with their closest friends and make memories that will last a lifetime. 

What if I have a class conflict with Marching Band?
You can still participate in the Marching Golden Flashes! We understand that there are many labs and academic courses that conflict with our rehearsal schedule. If you have exhausted all other scheduling options, please contact Dr. Olson (dolson9@kent.edu) to discuss your specific scheduling conflict. 

Is there a cost to participate in the Marching Golden Flashes?
Members are only responsible for providing black marching shoes, black athletic shorts, and khaki shorts/pants. All other costs associated with use of university instruments and uniforms are covered. 

What if I do not own an instrument?
All instruments used exclusively for the Marching Golden Flashes are provided for members at no cost. 

Is Marching Band an academic course?
Yes, all members must register for MUS 45222. Each section corresponds with a section of the band:

Section 001 - Brass/Woodwinds
Section 002 - Drumline
Section 003 - Colorguard
Section 004 - Twirlers
