ϳԹ at Stark Announces Its 2012-2013 Theatre Season

ϳԹ at Stark will begin its 2012-2013 theatre season with  Buried Child, a Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by Sam Shepard.ϳԹ at Stark has announced scheduled theatre performances for the 2012-2013 academic year. The upcoming productions will be performed at the ϳԹ Stark Fine Arts Theatre at 6000 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township.

The opening night of each theatre production is Scholarship Night. Proceeds from those performances will benefit students in the ϳԹ Stark theatre and music programs. Tickets may be conveniently purchased online by visiting . Theatre patrons may also obtain reservations and ticket orders through the Fine Arts Theatre Box Office by calling 330-244-3348, Monday to Friday, from 1 – 5 p.m.

Buried Child

Nov. 4 and 11, 2012 at 2:30 p.m.  (American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at the Nov. 11 performance.)
Ticket Prices: $10 adults; $7 students under 17 and senior citizens; ϳԹ students free with current ID. Tickets will be available online and at the Fine Arts Theatre Box Office, beginning Oct. 22.

Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama takes a macabre look at the disintegration of the American dream. Mystery and humor combine in the Midwestern home of a dysfunctional family with a very dark secret that plunges them into bizarre degeneration and finally, toward hope.

I Love You Because
Music by Joshua Salzman; Book and Lyrics by Ryan Cunningham
Feb. 15, 16, 22 and 23, 2013 at 8 p.m.               
Feb. 17 and 24, 2013 at 2:30 p.m.  (American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at the Feb. 24 performance.)
Ticket Prices: $14 adults; $10 students under 17 and senior citizens; ϳԹ students free with current ID. Tickets will be available online and at the Fine Arts Theatre Box Office, beginning on Jan. 28.

In this romantic musical’s modern twist on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, a young, uptight greeting card writer’s life is changed when he meets a flighty photographer. Along with their eccentric friends and siblings, they learn to love each other, not in spite of their faults, but because of them.

Written by students from ϳԹ at Stark’s Devising Theatre course, this multi-genre theatre piece enacts true and personal stories of abusive relationships and social injustice that move the characters through the hopeful journey from hurt to healing.

The Crucible
An opera adaptation of the play by Arthur Miller
Music by Robert Ward; Libretto by Bernard Stambler
June 7 and 8, 2013 at 8 p.m.
June 9, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. (American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at the June 9 performance.)
Ticket Prices: $14 adults; $10 students under 17 and senior citizens; ϳԹ students free with current ID. Tickets will be available online and at the Fine Arts Theatre Box Office, beginning on May 28.

An unfaithful husband’s life turns tragic in this operatic version of an American classic that examines justice, honor and courage. He finds himself fighting against a monstrous political and religious “witch hunt” and is forced to face his past and reconcile his actions before the power of the court.

Directing ϳԹ Stark’s theatrical productions is Assistant Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director Brian Newberg. Louis Williams is the scenic and lighting designer, Susan Blurton is the costume designer and Ron Jarvis is the sound designer. The music director for I Love You Because is Associate Professor of Music Laurel Seeds and Judith Ryder is the music director for The Crucible.
