What and with whom will I learn at this event?

Multicultural Education and Communication with Daniel Nilson

Daniel Nilson works at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in the College of Education, Health & Human Services (EHHS) and is the Director for the Office of Diversity Outreach & Development (DOD) on the Kent Campus. He has a Master’s Degree focused in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from the University at Buffalo and currently is a doctoral student in the Interprofessional Leadership program. He leads the college with recruiting and retention efforts for students from underrepresented and diverse backgrounds. His job is to make sure students and their families have access to post-secondary opportunities and help them realize the goals they have for themselves. He also provides trainings on social justice, diversity and inclusion both on and off campus. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø has been his home for the last 5 years and is the 5th institution of higher education he has worked at in the country.

Work and Life Balance with Dr. Jason Miller

Dr. Jason Miller has been the director of The Counseling Center at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø for over 16 years. In that time he has focused much of his energies in understanding and meeting the mental health needs of college students, both graduate and undergraduate. As student needs have changed over the years, so too has Dr. Miller’s approach to meeting these needs. With today’s epidemics of anxiety, depression, and loneliness, Dr. Miller has begun to focus interventions and trainings on the more existential aspects of control and resiliency within the individual.

Academic Writing APA7 with Vanessa Earp

Vanessa Earp is the subject librarian for the College of Education, Health and Human Services. She started at KSU in August of 2005. Prior to working for KSU she was the Curriculum Center Librarian at Texas A&M-Kingsville. She has a BS in Communication from the University of Akron, MLS from Indiana University, MS in Reading from Texas A&M, and an EdS in Higher Education from ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. She currently enrolled in the Evaluation and Measurement Program here at KSU. Her area of research interest is current academic integrity among college students. She lives on a small hobby farm with her husband Paul, 2 goats (Simon & Garfunkel) and 4 German Shepherds.

And?

Meet Dean Steve Mitchell

Dr. Steve Mitchell, Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs and Graduate Education, is a full professor in the School of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Studies, with research interests in curriculum development, research design and assessment. He provides administrative oversight to the EHHS Doctoral Student Forum. This event is a great opportunity to see him "in person", if you haven't already! He will also be taking any questions or concerns from you.
