MODERN METHODS BREWING CRAFTS EXCLUSIVE PORTER FOR KENT STATE TRUMBULL THEATRE

Modern Methods Brewing Company again celebrated the ghost light, a single bulb traditionally left burning in dark, vacant theatres that some say chases away mischievous spirits, launching its Ghost Light Porter during Sips and Scripts on Wed., Nov. 15 at The Darlene Lounge in Warren.

That night, actors read the play “(Wo)Mansville,” written by Laura Barbieri, a playwright, actress and director from Northeast Ohio. Sips and Scripts represents a partnership between the ϳԹ Trumbull Theatre and Modern Methods Brewing. The monthly script readings are free and open to the public, but drinks must be purchased separately.

The partnership began in 2021 when Eric Kildow, associate professor and ϳԹ Trumbull Theatre director, approached Adam and Sarah Keck, owners of Modern Methods, with an idea to connect local theatre and craft beer. The Kecks instantly loved the idea of creating community get-togethers and opportunities to enjoy craft beer and the arts — especially original, local art.

"We're always looking for ways to support local art, so when Eric came to us with the idea of a collaboration, we were entirely on board," Sarah Keck said. "Our goal with Ghost Light Porter was to brew a porter (one of Eric's favorite styles) worthy of enjoying at intermission for attendees and thespians alike."

Ghost Light Porter is a classic American dark beer brewed with six different specialty malts for a complex flavor profile, evoking chocolate and hints of nuts and finishing with dark fruit. A moderate hop profile of nugget and cascade keeps Ghost Light eminently drinkable. It will be available on draft, in cans and through wholesale accounts. A portion of each Ghost Light Porter sold supports the theatre. The label features artwork by Elijah DuPonty of Youngstown.
