It's Her Week at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø chapter of Her Campus presents a full week of events spotlighting different careers

From April 9-13, Her Campus ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø is offering topic-specific presentations covering careers in media, journalism, literature and fashion. There will also be a program presenting helpful advice for career success.

Sessions will feature individual presentations by industry professionals or panel discussions by a group of professionals.

This year, Her Campus ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø is celebrating 10 years as a student organization. Her Week events are free and open to the public.

In honor of Her Week and the 10th anniversary of Her Campus ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, the University Library will be lit in pink from April 9-13.

Her Media

Tuesday, April 9, 6-9 p.m. in Bowman Hall, Room 137.

Three panelists, Maddy Haberberger, Abigail Forbes and Zharia’ Elizabeth, will share their insights and experiences about being a woman in media.

Also, Alex Thompson, president of Female Filmmakers Initiative, will speak about her organization, what it means to be a woman in the film industry and the value of diversity.

The event will include a question-and-answer session, snacks and giveaways.

Her Story: Journalism

Wednesday, April 10, 6-9 p.m. in Taylor Hall, Room 226

Four panelists with careers in journalism, Lisa Abraham, Jacqueline Marino, Erin Simonek and Rachel Gross, will discuss their experiences in working as professional journalists.

Plus, a panel of student journalists, Kennedy Gotham, Grace Clarke and Sydney Brown, will talk about what it’s like to be a young, female journalist.

Both panel discussions will be followed by a question-and-answer session, along with snacks and giveaways, including a free Her Week Journal.

Her Story: Literature

Thursday, April 11, 6-8:30 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Governance Chambers.

Amanda Miller will talk about self-publishing and careers in the literature industry, in a virtual presentation.

Next, Amanda Drew will share what it’s like to be an author and stay-at-home mother. Drew will also host a question-and-answer session and a book signing. 

There will also be snacks and giveaway items.

Her Future

Friday, April 12, 1-4 p.m., in Taylor Hall, May 4 Reflection Gallery

This event is packed with speakers and valuable information. It begins with a luncheon and a presentation by communications professional Izzy Stewart who will discuss the tools and advice that can help further one’s career.

Then, two members of Her Campus ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Aislinn Foran, president, and Bailey Fair, events coordinator, will conduct a workshop for creating resumes and using LinkedIn.

In the next presentation, Renee Axiotis will discuss science-based ways to create happiness.

Afterward, College Fashionista, an online community for aspiring fashion and beauty writers, editors, creators and marketers, will host a question-and-answer session.

The day’s schedule will conclude with a speakers’ panel of Her Campus ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø alumni. Shelby Rabideaux, Lainey W and Alex Golden will share their stories of their careers after Her Campus.

Her Fashion

Saturday, April 13, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., in the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Museum, Murphy Auditorium

This fashion-focused event begins with a speakers’ panel of Allison Peterson and Zharia’ Elizabeth.

The panel discussion will be followed by a presentation by Vera LeCount, vice president of Her Campus ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. LeCount will discuss upcycling and lead an upcycling workshop with the goal of teaching attendees how to upcycle their clothing for their longer, useful life and reduction of waste.

The day’s schedule and Her Week will end with a fashion show, in which participants can show off outfits they want to showcase on the runway.

There will be a question-and-answer session after each speaker’s presentation and panel discussion, plus there will be snacks and giveaways.

Its editorial team, social media team and event planning team publishes content weekly and creates on- and off-campus events with the goal of creating a community of empowered college women.
