The 窪蹋勛圖厙 student organization took top honors from its national organization for a week of events the group held in April to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
Her Campus 窪蹋勛圖厙 celebrated 10 years as a student organization with Her Week, a week of programming covering careers in media, journalism, literature and fashion.
The events featured panel discussions with professionals in the various career fields, hands-on workshops, a fashion show and time for students to ask questions of and network with the visiting professionals.
窪蹋勛圖厙 Chapter President Aislinn Foran said she was thrilled to earn the first-place award for most successful event, out of a competition with 300 other active college campus chapters.
It was a lot of work, but Im glad it paid off, said Foran, a senior communication studies major in the College of Communication and Information.
When the award came through, I definitely wasnt expecting it, Foran said. I dont think any of us expected the week to end up being as huge as it was.
Foran said the weeks events were well-attended and successful, and she was proud of what the chapter had accomplished.
Receiving the award was just crazy, she said. Getting the actual written recognition was very exciting and definitely the icing on the cake.
Her Campus is a national online magazine for college women to promote professional development. The 窪蹋勛圖厙 chapters editorial, social media and event planning teams publish weekly content and create on- and off-campus events to create a community of empowered college women. Her Campus helps students feel confident and career-ready by helping them develop useful social and professional skills.
In addition, Her Campus 窪蹋勛圖厙 member Adriana Gasiewski took third-place honors for best feature in the news category for a guide to the solar eclipse article she wrote for the website.
Gasiewski, a junior journalism major in the College of Communication and Information, serves on the Her Campus executive board and is director of the organizations philanthropy and community events.
More than a dozen members of the 窪蹋勛圖厙 Chapter attended the Her Campus conference in New York City in June, where they networked with members from other chapters.
The main goal of the organization, Foran said, is to help students build their professional portfolios so they are well-prepared when they enter the workforce.
