ϳԹ’s School of Theatre and Dance continues its 2024-2025 season with “Pride & Prejudice–The Musical” running October 25 through November 3 in E. Turner Stump Theatre, located in the Center for Performing Arts.
Jane Austen's beloved novel comes to the stage in this exciting and moving new musical adaptation of “Pride & Prejudice.” Set in 1800 England, this 2008 Richard Rodgers Award finalist musical tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet, one of five sisters, who rebels against society's and her mother's wish that she must marry anyone, as long as he is rich. When she crosses paths with the rich and arrogant Mr. Darcy, a battle of wills ensues.
With a score that is melodically and harmonically lush, romantic, quirky and humorous, bookwriter, composer and lyricist Lawrence Rush has created an emotionally charged musical tapestry that brings the novel's wonderful characters to life. The musical's book is a faithful adaptation of the novel, seamlessly combining Jane Austen's time-honored words with new dialogue. With a story that is touching, profound and humorous, and a score filled with memorable songs, “Pride & Prejudice–The Musical” promises to be an evening of theater that will be enjoyed and cherished by audiences of all ages.
Writer, composer and lyricist for “Pride & Prejudice–The Musical” is Lawrence Rush, based on the book by Jane Austen. Orchestrated by Matt Castle and Frank Galgano. Direction is by Fabio Polanco, choreography by Courtney Brown and music direction by Jen Korecki. Liz Finkel serves as assistant director and Nicole Berrios-Parga as production stage manager. Costume design is by Abbie Hagen, lighting design is by Madeline Barber, sound design is by Daniel Braun and technical direction is by Wes Carney. Scenic design is Kordell Harr and properties manager is Jenica Jenick. Karl Erdmann is the production manager and Tony Hardin is the director of the School of Theatre and Dance and executive producer.
