The ϳԹ community paused from classes and work Nov. 10 to gather on the Student Green at Risman Plaza and show their respect as part of Veterans Day. (Note: ϳԹ and many other universities hold services on the day preceding Veterans Day as the university is closed for the federal holiday.)
ϳԹ President Todd Diacon welcomed those in attendance to the program titled “Honoring All Those Who Serve,” which included a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from ϳԹ’s Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC programs. Tim Coyne, senior business manager for ϳԹ’s Division of Student Affairs, served as bugler while the national anthem was performed by student Elyse McCullough.
Maureen McFarland, Ph.D., a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Aeronautics and Engineering at ϳԹ, served as emcee.
N. J. Akbar, Ph.D., who served in the U.S. Army and is currently the associate vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion at ϳԹ, delivered the keynote address to several hundred people in attendance.

Earlier this year, ϳԹ exemplified its leadership in its mission to support students as the Kent Campus was designated a Military Friendly® School for the 13th consecutive year, earning a Gold award. In addition, ϳԹ at Trumbull earned a Silver award.
