What is Password Management?
Your password is like a lock that protects your identity from unwanted access to your accounts. In combination with your user name, your password verifies who you are and also grants you access to protected resources.
If you use the same password for every account you have, whether its Facebook, Yahoo, email, or sensitive computer systems, and it gets compromised then the “bad guys” have gained access to everything! If you have a different password for each account then the "bad guys" don’t get a free pass into the rest of your accounts.
Another key to security is strong security questions. Make sure that they are not easy to guess and are not something that could be looked up online.
Also, make sure your personal information on your FlashLine account is up to date. It is what ϳԹ will use to reach you if that becomes necessary.
The security of your accounts requires the vigilance of everyone including yourself.
Information Security is not just what happens in an office by professionals, but also an individuals responsibility.
Be aware of your role in protecting your information, identity, and protecting others as well.
NOTE: University Policy
Understand that the sharing of FlashLine account information, even with family members, is a violation of University policy. University policy 9-01.1 covers the acceptable use of accounts, including but not limited to prohibiting credential sharing.
Section B, Subsection 2 of the policy reads:
Computer accounts, passwords, and other types of authorization are assigned to individual users and should not be shared with others. Individual users are responsible for the use of their accounts. If an account is shared or the password divulged, the holder of the account may lose all account privileges and be held personally responsible for any actions that arise from the misuse of the account.
Section D of the policy covers the enforcement of the violation of this policy and reads:
Users who violate this policy may be denied access to university computing resources and may be subject to other penalties and disciplinary action, both within and outside of the university.
The university may temporarily suspend or block access to an account, prior to the initiation or completion of such procedures, when it reasonably appears necessary to do so in order to protect the integrity, security or functionality of university or other computing resources or to protect the university from liability.
